Senior IAS officer Paban Kumar Borthakur takes charge as Chief Secretary of Assam

Guwahati: An IAS officer of the 1989 batch Paban Kumar Borthakur on Thursday took charge as the new Chief Secretary of Assam.

On Wednesday, Jishnu Barua, who retired from service was replaced by Borthakur.

Earlier, Borthakur was serving as the additional chief secretary to the state government in the transformation and development, cultural affairs and tourism departments. He is also the chairman of the Assam Administrative Tribunal.

However, for a period of two years or till further orders Barua will continue as the chairman of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).

Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid a visit to Barua’s office in the state secretariat.

CM was accompanied by education minister Ranoj Pegu and lauded the outgoing chief secretary for the dedicated service he had extended to the state and its residents for over three decades.

Taking to Twitter, CM wrote, “Working closely with Chief Secretary Shri Jishnu Barua, known for his efficient way of doing things, was a delightful experience. The IAS officer had an illustrious career spanning 3 decades in public service. On his last day at office, I wish him good health & happiness.”
