Assam: Commonwealth gold medalist Nayanmoni Saikia appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police
Guwahati: Gold medalist Nayanmoni Saikia was formally appointed as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) by Assam on Saturday.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma handed over the appointment letter to a 29-year-old Lawn Bowl player who has been appointed as DSP in the state at a function held at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati.
Sarma had also awarded a cheque of Rs 50 lakhs to the Commonwealth Games gold medalist for her excellent performance.
DSP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Cabinet Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, and other top senior officers were also present on the occasion.
Nayanmoni, is one of the team members of the Indian Women’s team who created history by winning the gold medal in Lawn Bowl at the Commonwealth Games, 2022 in Birmingham.
The team, consisting of Rupa Rani Tirkey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia, and Lovely Choubey, won the medal by beating powerhouse South Africa.
