Assam police seized over 1900 kgs Ganja in two separate incidents, 4 held

Guwahati: Assam police in a joint operation with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) seized over 860 kgs of ganja and 40.70 grams of suspected heroin in Karbi Anglong district on Saturday.

Based on specific information, a police team with CRPF set up a naka checking at Lahorijan near the Assam-Nagaland border under the Khatkhati police station.

Meanwhile, police intercepted a truck coming from Manipur. During the search operation, police recovered a total of 80 packets of ganja weighing 860 kgs and three soap boxes containing 40.70 grams suspected to be heroin.

Three persons have been arrested in connection to the seizure and identified as Filter Kalita (32), Dipak Mahato (26), and Rahul Tamang (19).

The total market value of the seized ganja is estimated at around Rs 1 crore.

Further investigation is underway into the case.

Meanwhile, taking to Twitter, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the Karbi Anglong Police and wrote, “Yet another success in @assampolice’s drive to curb the menace of drugs. Early in the morning today, @karbianglongpol seized 860 kg Ganja and 40 gram Heroin hidden in a secret chamber in a truck at Lahorijan, Karbi Anglong. Good work.”

On Friday also, Assam police seized over 1100 kg of ganja worth around RS. 2 crore in Karimganj district along the Assam-Tripura border.

Police arrested a person in this connection and identified as Manish Kumar from Bihar.
