Manipur: 13 militants surrender before Chief Minister

Guwahati: At least thirteen militants belonging to two proscribed outfits surrendered with their firearms before Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday.

The surrendered insurgents include 12 of the Kangleipak Communist Party-People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) and one from the Kanglei Yawol Kanba Lup (KYKL).

The “homecoming ceremony” at the 1st Manipur Rifles complex called on all insurgent groups to engage in negotiations, said CM.

Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, peace is prevailing in Manipur, and militants from a variety of groups are returning to the mainstream.

The militants laid down two M79 grenade launchers, also known as ‘lathode guns’, three 9mm pistols, two detonators and two radio sets among other items.

Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, “Welcomed 12 Cadres of KCP-PWG (Peoples War Group) and 1 KYKL cadre at the Homecoming Ceremony held at 1st MR in Imphal today. 2 lathode guns, 3 9mm pistols, 3 IEDs, 2 detonators, 2 radio sets, 5 letter heads and 4 extortion letter from KCP(MC) were also surrendered today.”

“With peace prevailing in the state under the guidance of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, various cadres from different militant outfits have joined the mainstream. I appeal all the underground outfits to come to dialogue table and peaceful resolution”, Singh tweeted.
