Guwahati: Security forces destroyed a World War II vintage bomb on Saturday, found during digging, in Manipur’s Kamjong district, defence officials said.

According to officials, the bomb was found during digging work by the locals in the area, bordering Myanmar.

After receiving the information, security forces securely moved the bomb away from populated areas for disposal with the help of local police. A team from the army’s bomb disposal unit then used the “Violent Technique” to safely dispose of the 250 lb explosive, officially added.

As per sources, this mechanism involved careful and technical placement of pre-calculated explosives and initiating controlled detonation to destroy the bomb.

At least 250 residents and their varied livestock and domestic animals living within a 2 km radius of the blast location were safely evacuated by a joint team of Manipur Police and paramilitary troops before disposing the powerful bomb.

However, the explosive was properly destroyed without causing any unwanted incidents, officially added.
