Assam: PFI Member Arrested in Karimganj

The Assam Police arrested one member of the Popular Front of India (PFI) in Karimganj district on Tuesday.

The arrested PFI member has been identified as Abusaale Asanur Zaman.

Zaman was arrested from the Longai Biscuit area near Karimganj town.

SP Karimganj Police said that the Karimganj district police were on alert and had launched an inquiry following the nationwide PFI operation.

As per reports, Police registered a case against Zaman at Karimganj police station. Police have produced him before the court and sought police remand.

“During the preliminary investigation, we have found that the PFI member and other persons associated with PFI are involved in anti-national activities,” SP Padmanabh Baruah said.

The police officer added that one PFI member, Bazrul Karim, had been detained by the Assam Police Special Branch a few days ago in the Badarpur region.

On Tuesday, the Assam Police carried out a new operation against PFI in many districts in the state and arrested 25 PFI leaders.

Out of 25 arrested PFI leaders, 10 were arrested from Goalpara district, following 5 from Kamrup (Rural) district, 3 from Dhubri district, 2 each from Barpeta and Baksa district, and one each from Karimganj, Udalguri, and Darrang district.
