Assam police seize brown sugar worth Rs 2.5 crore, 1 held
Guwahati: In a major drug haul, Assam police seized a massive consignment of brown sugar and arrested a person in this connection in Hojai district on Thursday.
Based on specific information, police launched an operation in Lumding Junction.
During the search operation, police recovered brown sugar weighing 421.86 grams concealed in 31 soap cases at Lumding Junction in Dibrugarh-Howrah express.
The seizure was worth around Rs 2.5 crores, officials added.
Meanwhile, police also took one person in custody in connection and identified as Rashidul Haque.
According to sources, the brown sugar consignment was being smuggled from Dimapur in Nagaland to Chaparmukh in Assam’s Nagaon.
