Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday inaugurated the two-lane flyover at Arya Nagar in Guwahati.

To make it easier for commuters to go through traffic, a flyover has been constructed next to Arya Vidyapeeth College.

According to officials, the 790-meter-long flyover was constructed at a cost of nearly Rs 150 crores.

Taking to Twitter, CM wrote, “Happy to dedicate to the public the new flyover built at Arya Nagar Chariali on Garbhanga Road, Guwahati on eve of Durgotsav. I thank & appreciate PWD (Roads), M/s Hi-Tech Constructions, and everyone involved in the project for completing the construction much ahead of schedule.”

“The 790-metre flyover has been built at a cost of ₹149.07 cr under SOPD 2019-20. It not only fulfils a long-standing wish of people of Arya Nagar, but will also significantly reduce traffic congestion. Patients of B Borooah Cancer Institute will be particularly benefitted”, Sarma tweeted.

Earlier CM Sarma stated that the flyover would be inaugurated ahead of the T20 match between India and South Africa to prevent traffic jams during the match.

Meanwhile, on October 2, the T20 match between India and South Africa will be held at the Barsapara Stadium.

Last year, on February 26, the foundation stone of the flyover was laid before the Assembly elections.
