Assam CM shares video of Rhino being hit by trucks
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday shared a ten seconds video clip on social media, shows a rhinoceros hit by a speeding truck at Haldibari.
Himanta said that the rhino has survived the accident and the vehicle has been intercepted and fined.
Taking to Twitter, Sarma wrote, “Rhinos are our special friends; we’ll not allow any infringement on their space,” the chief minister tweeted.
“In this unfortunate incident at Haldibari the Rhino survived; vehicle intercepted & fined. Meanwhile in our resolve to save animals at Kaziranga we’re working on a special 32-km elevated corridor” he added.
Last month, Sarma along with spiritual leader Jagadish Vasudev drew flak for allegedly undertaking a jeep safari inside the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) after sunset.
According to the latest census, which was released in March of this year, the number of one-horned rhinos in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) has climbed by 200 in the past four years.
