The Subansiri Lower Hydro-electric Project (SLHEP) near Gerukamukh in Assam’s Dhemaji district has seen massive landslides, according to reports.
The natural disaster that was reportedly witnessed along the hills of the basically completed 2000 MW Subansiri power plant site at Gerukamukh has reawakened fears of a potential disaster among those living along the river’s downstream regions in Assam’s Lakhimpur District.
It’s worth remembering that on Wednesday, a large portion of the hill at the project site collapsed onto the river’s diversion course, frightening the workers and complicating the repair process.
The National Hydro Electric Power Corporation (NHPC) and its contractors were compelled to cease work and evacuate their staff at the SLHEP site in Assam because of recent landslides and water spills.
A rise in water-level at of Subansiri River
In the Lakhimpur district’s Ghansarai-Teliyapathar, the Subansiri River’s right-hand bank has already been breached by rising water levels, flooding Telahi Mauza in the North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle.
