Student from Assam’s Tinsukia found dead in hostel room in IIT Kharagpur

Guwahati: A 23-year-old Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur student has been found dead in his hostel room in West Bengal on Friday.

Police recovered the body after being notified foul smell emanating from the closed room in Lala Lajpat Rai Hall.

The deceased has been identified as Faizan Ahmed and was a third-year student of mechanical engineering. He was a native of the Tinsukia district in Assam.

The victim’s body has now been sent for post-mortem. As per sources, it is suspected a case of suicide.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his condolences and taking to Twitter Sarma wote, “Deeply pained by the unfortunate death of Faizan Ahmed, a bright young student from Tinsukia studying at the prestigious IIT Kharagpur. My condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.”
