5 held in ATM fraud case in Guwahati
Guwahati: At least five people were arrested in connection with two ATM fraud cases in Guwahati on Saturday.
The arrested persons had fraudulently changed the ATM cards of unknown persons to withdraw money, officials stated.
The arrested persons were identified as Jiaul Hoque, Lutfur Rahman, Aminul, Hanifur, and Shahidul.
As per officials, based on complaints by two victims Rajib Das and Devendra Kalita on October 4 and 5, Guwahati police started search operations.
During the operation, police checked CCTV footage of the ATMs and identified a car, and arrested the owner of the car.
However, police checked the details as to which account the money was transferred, and police arrested another person.
As many as 68 ATM cards, Rs 15,000 in cash, three vehicles, and six mobile phones were recovered from their possession.
“During interrogation, the two arrested persons revealed another person’s name and as a result, we detained three more people last night”, the official said.
