Foreign nationals arrested for duping women in Social media in Hyderabad
Two foreign nationals from Delhi were arrested by Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police on Sunday for allegedly defrauding women on social media.
The arrested accused have been identified as Allote Peter, a Ghana national and Romance Joshua, a Nigerian national.
“Oscar Leone chatted with the victim on WhatsApp for a few days after introducing himself as a doctor from the USA.
They became friends later, and the accused informed her that he was sending her a package containing gold jewellery, electronics, and some cash, according to the police.
Later, a different caller identified himself as an official from the Delhi International Airport’s customs department and demanded payment for the gifts the complainant had received from Oscar Leon.
The complainant was charged a total of Rs 2.2 lakhs, according to the police.
The accused was apprehended by the Cyber Crime police after they discovered them in Delhi during the course of the investigation.
They admitted during questioning that they travelled to Delhi on student visas, made vague profiles on Facebook and Instagram using images of white people, and sent follow requests to women.
Later, the accused started having conversations with mobile numbers that started with “+1” and “+44,” giving the victims the impression that they were speaking with foreigners.
“Subsequently, they become friends with the victims, and as they gained trust, they told the complainants that they were sending gifts to show their friendship.
They send pictures of items like cash, laptops, cellphones, and gold jewellery.
After that, their associates call the victims and pose as representatives of the customs department of the International Airport in Delhi in order to demand payment for customs duty, income tax, RBI fees, conversion charges, etc., according to the police report.
A case was filed, based on the complaints from Begumpet. The case was then cracked under the supervision of KVM Prasad ACP, Inspector Venkata Rami Reddy SI Keetha Madhusudhana Rao, Constables Satish, Bhaskar, Murali Krishna and Kranthi Kumar. (ANI)
