Guwahati: Congress presidential polls underway in Rajiv Bhawan
Guwahati: Voting for the Congress presidential elections is currently underway.
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) is all set to vote to elect its next president with senior party leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor being pitted against each other on Monday.
The president elections were held at APCC headquarter, the Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati. The voting will be done between 10 am and 4 pm, with the results likely to be declared on October 19.
A total of 289 Assam Pradesh Congress Committee delegates will cast their votes to select the party leader.
In the 137-year history of the Congress, elections will be held at AICC headquarters at more than 65 polling booths across the country for the sixth time.
However, the fate of the Congress party will be decided by over 9,000 Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) delegates who comprise the electoral college for electing the party chief.
After more than 24 years, a non-Gandhi would be in charge after Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra resigned from the post.
