Assam: Devotee drowns during Chhath puja in Barpeta

Guwahati: In a tragic incident, a devotee on Sunday drowned during Chhath Puja in Assam’s Barpeta district.

The incident took place at Manah River in the district.

The deceased has been identified as Basudev Ghosh, a resident of Shakti Nagar in Barpeta Road.

However, the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) jawans recovered the body from the river.

According to sources, Ghosh came to attend Chhath Puja with his family in the river.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Guwahati police issued traffic advisories, and restrictions were imposed from 1 PM on October 30 till the departure of the devotees from puja locations in the evening.
