Mizoram: President inaugurates multiple education-related projects in Aizawl

Guwahati: President of India, Droupadi Murmu inaugurated several education-related projects in Mizoram, including two girls’ hostels, a government college, and the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in Aizawl on Thursday.

President, who is on a two-day first visit to the northeastern state, addressed the 17th convocation ceremony of Mizoram University (MZU) and urged the students to use the knowledge and abilities to advance society and the country.

The President stated that Mizoram University is a prominent university in the North-Eastern Region providing quality education.

“The university has made serious efforts in promoting academics that resulted in remarkable progress in the fields of Science, Arts, Commerce, Engineering, and Medical Sciences. It has gained the status of ‘Institution of Eminence’ and taken some path-breaking initiatives,” the president added.

The university has three incubators for providing innovative and practical training to the students, Murmu said.

The university has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with various universities and organizations at the national and international levels for academic and technological collaborations.
Over 6,800 students, including 52 gold medalists, were conferred various degrees, including Ph.D. and MPhil, on the occasion.

The president expressed satisfaction that more than 50% of the students who graduated in the academic year 2021–2022 were girls.

The inauguration of the girls’ hostels is a step towards empowering female students by providing them access to quality education and other facilities, the president said.
