Assam police seize 60,000 Yaba tablets in Sonapur, 1 arrested

Guwahati: Assam police seized a huge quantity of illicit Yaba tablets valued over Rs 15 crore in Assam’s Kamrup district on Saturday.

The drug bust took place in the Sonapur area, the outskirts (20 km away) of Guwahati city and arrested one person in this connection.

The arrested person has been identified as Mohammad Ajmal Khan (30) and a resident of Thoubal district in Manipur.

Based on the specific information, a police team led by Joint Commissioner of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta launched an operation and intercepted a vehicle at Nazirakhat toll gate near Sonapur, said official.

During a search operation, police recovered 60,000 Yaba tablets from the hidden chambers of the vehicle, officials stated.

The official further added that the market value of the seized contraband drugs is estimated at around Rs 15 crore.
