Assam CM inaugurates largest-ever cold storage facility in NE

The largest-ever cold storage facility in North-East India was inagurated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Chaygaon today.

The facility cost Rs 24.75 crores to build, according to the state government.

The capacity of the cold storage facility will be 5,000 MT.

Additionally, the Panery fruit processing factory was inaugurated by the Assam Chief Minister.

“The opening of a cold storage with a 5,000-MT capacity at Chaygaon and a fruit processing centre at Panery signal a new chapter in Assam’s agro sector,” Sarma stated while speaking at the ceremony.

The CM hailed Ajit Sarma Baruah, the owner of Bhogali Jalpan, and his wife Anjali Sarma Baruah for stepping forward to establish the centre in Panery for Rs 2.89 crore.

Notably, the state government gave the centre a 50% subsidy.

The Assam Chief Minister also emphasised the need to cultivate high-value trees like sal, agar, teak, etc. at home in order to profit economically.

The village is close National Highway 17, and there are buses and other means of transportation that connect it to the adjacent cities and towns.
