A 50-year-old man has been arrested for the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl in Assam’s Cachar district.
The accused has been identified as Islamuddin.
The incident happened in Cachar’s Harinagar Chatradayal village.
According to reports, the minor girl went missing on Sunday night after going to her relatives’ home to attend a wedding reception.
After having no trace of the missing girl, the family members filed a missing persons report (FIR) with the Harinagar Police Outpost.
After the police launched investigations, Islamuddin was arrested on Wednesday.
Islamuddin confessed under questioning that he had taken the minor girl to a jungle, where he had sexually assaulted her before killing her.
Meanwhile, the girl’s body has been recovered from the jungle and has been taken for post-mortem examination.
