Police acting like BJP agents, alleges SP

The Samajwadi Party (SP) has questioned the impartiality of the administration in the by-elections to one Lok Sabha and two assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. The mainpuri Lok Sabha seat has been accused of the highest bias. Dimpal Yadav, wife of former chief minister and Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav, is the samajwadi party’s candidate. Both Akhilesh and Dimple alleged that they could not contact any official of the administration despite several attempts in times of need.

The Samajwadi Party also alleged that its party agents were not allowed to sit in many booths. Police have checked the identity cards of Muslim voters standing in the voting line. It has been alleged that the BJP has been stationed at a polling station in Balpura in Karhal. Agents are preventing Muslim voters from voting. It demanded the dismissal of police officer Rakesh Kumar Singh for allegedly obstructing Muslim voters from casting their votes. Samajwadi Party leaders alleged that the police-administration acted as a representative of the ruling BJP in the elections. Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav was an MP from Mainpuri.

By-election to this seat on his death. Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav is the Samajwadi Party’s candidate for her father-in-law’s seat. The BJP’s candidate is former MP Raghuraj Singh. There has been a two-way fight between the Samajwadi Party and the BJP in this constituency. By-elections were also held in two other assembly constituencies of Rampur Sadar and Khatauli in the state.


At around 11 pm, Dimple Yadav tweeted, “The District Magistrate of Mainpuri is not taking calls from Samajwadi Party workers regarding the elections. The Election Commission should look into it. Soon after, Akhilesh tweeted, “I don’t know on whose orders since the start of voting. The administration is working. What exactly has the administration been asked to do? There have been complaints one after the other since morning.

The police are preventing people from voting. Akhilesh, however, is confident of his wife Dimple’s victory. Samajwadi Party leader RamGopal Yadav is also there. Another Samajwadi Party leader Ramgopal Yadav also alleged that samajwadi party agents were not allowed to sit in several booths in the morning. Shivpal Yadav, another brother of Mulayam Singh Yadav, has also made the same allegation. He alleged that Samajwadi Party workers were being attacked.
