Guwahati:A scholarly lecture on medieval Assamese Sanchipatiya Book was held at the Dhubri campus of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva University. Dr. Chandrakamal Chetia, Branch Coordinator, Dhubri Unit of the University, was present as the content person, Dr. Haricharan Das, Convenor of The Indian Anthropological Library Association and librarian of Bilasipara College .
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Das presented a simple, informative discussion on the various styles of books written in the Assamese Sanchipat and Tulapat of the middle ages, as well as the writing of letters.
He also gave an overview of a number of ancient heritage books in the hands of people in different areas of western Assam, especially dhubri and Coochbehar districts, which have been received so far and still without proper storage. He also said that the Sanchipatiya texts found in this region including Satrashal, Madhupur, in parallel to the Garhgaya, Kaitheli and Bamuniya styles prevalent in medieval Assam also have a different and distinct style. On this occasion, Dr. Das called upon the Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva University as well as the Government to take steps for proper preservation of these ancient books.
Dr. Chandrakamal Chetia, Branch Coordinator, Dhubri Unit of the University said that action would be taken immediately to digitize these ancient books with the joint efforts of the Indian Anthropological Library and the Assamese Department of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva University. At the end of the meeting, Assistant Professor, Department of Assamese, Hiranya Kumar Bora presented a letter of appreciation to all present at the meeting.
