Kathmandu:Charles Sobhraj has finally left for France. Two days ago, the notorious serial killer was released by the Supreme Court of Nepal. He was then handed over on a flight to France on Friday in compliance with the court’s order.
Sobhraj was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by a Nepalese court for the murder of two North American tourists in Kathmandu in 1975. He was arrested on his return to Nepal from France in 2003. Since then, he has been in jail for nearly 19 years. A bench of Justices Swapna Pradhan Malla and Tilak Prasad Shrestha had on December 21 ordered the release of the 78-year-old French national from jail. Kathmandu handed over the ‘bikini killer’ to the immigration department in compliance with the court’s order on Friday.
