New Delhi:Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMJKAY) has been discontinued. 80 crore people of the country will no longer get 5 kg of wheat for free every month. The central government does not want to prolong the project, which has been going on for almost two years. The decision was taken at a recent meeting of the Modi cabinet. However, the Centre has said that free ration for the poor people will continue as per the National Food Security Act.
After the meeting, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, “We all know that the central government gives rice at Rs 3 per kg under the National Food Security Act. 1 kg of wheat is available at Tk 2. Now Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a historic decision. From this time, the poor will get rice and wheat free of cost under the National Food Security Act.

Millions of people will get this benefit. And those who got 35 kg (21 kg of rice and 14 kg of wheat) under the Annadata Yojana will get it free of cost. The rest will get 5 kg of grain for free. The Centre will now bear a burden of around Rs 2 lakh crore for food security. Therefore, the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana is going to be discontinued from this time.
