12 new leopards are coming to India this month! Preparations for the final round are underway in Namibia
New Delhi:The central government’s efforts to breed leopards in the country were appreciated in various quarters. But at the same time, many controversies were also created.
The cheetah came to India last September, 70 years after it went extinct. On September 17, 2022, on the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre had brought eight cheetahs from Namibia in South Africa. Five female and three male cheetahs — the plan was to breed a new cheetah in the country. However, the debate about it has not diminished. In the midst of that controversy, the Modi government is going to bring twelve more cheetahs to the country.
If all goes well, seven more male and five female leopards will arrive in the country from Kuno National Park in Namibia in the middle or last week of January. They will be officially released by the Centre on January 20 at the Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka. The national is going to sit in Bandipur this time.
