Guwahati: The residents of a village in Sipajhar in Darrang district have shown the wonderful example of love for nature during Bhogali Bihu. In the name of preserving tradition, the people of this village have refrained from destroying nature. The villagers of Kokaitola in Sipajhar area of Darrang district broke the tradition to save a pair of pigeons. A bhela ghar was also built with bamboo, straw and dry leaves.

According to the tradition, many people of the village spend the night before Bihu every year in velaghar and the next morning, during the burning of meji, the bhelaghar is also burnt. But this afternoon, the bhela ghar built by the local people of Kokaitala was not burnt in violation of the tradition. He also refrained from feasting in the bhelaghar as it would be.
