New Delhi:Dipa Karmakar has been severely punished for failing a dope test. The Bengali gymnast has been banned for 21 months. He has been punished by the International Testing Agency (ITA).Though the ITA has banned Deepa for so many days, the punishment has come into effect much earlier. Deepa has not been able to participate in any match since October 2021. The sentence will remain in force until July 2023. Deepa, who missed out on a medal at the Rio Olympics, will not be able to compete in any international competition for India during this period.
According to the ITA, a banned substance called hyginamine was found in Deepa’s body. Dipa’s body was found in 2021 by the Federation Internationale de Gymnastics (FIG).
