Minister Pijush Hazarika inaugurates government-run de-addiction centre at Pamhi in Guwahati

Guwahati :The Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of Assam, Pijush Hazarika today inaugurated a de-addiction centre under the State Anti-Narcotics and Prevention Council at Pamhi in Guwahati. Speaking in the presence of Guwahati MP Queen Oza, West Guwahati MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita and State Anti-Narcotics Council Chairperson Mridula Barkakati, minister Hazarika said the drug addict individuals are also part of our society. In such a situation we must cooperate in their recovery from addiction and returning to the main stream of society.

On the other hand since taking over as the Minister of Social Justice and empowerment last year, he has visited the de-addiction centers in the state and made arrangements for the management of these private centers. The Minister said that the overall situation of de-addiction centers has improved in the last six months. Inaugurating the de-addiction centre in the government sector today Minister Hazarika said that from today onwards departmental officers have to be more prepared for the good management of this center. It is worth mentioning that in Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Golaghat, Barpeta each in Sonitpur and Kamrup Metropolitan districts total of six de-addiction centres are set to operate through government system. In today’s meeting Minister Hazarika urged the officials of social justice and empowerment department not to compromise on the good management of these centres.

The minister further said in the context of his speech that it is easy to start an event but the main thing is to maintain continuity and go well. Minister Hazarika also sought the cooperation of residents of the areas where de-addiction centres are located in this regard. He also mentioned that if there are any complaints and suggestions about the centres, the local people can inform the minister directly.
