Her parents left after her birth! Court orders ‘Afghan’ child to give Indian passport

New Delhi:Her parents had migrated to India to save their lives after the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan. The ‘Afghan’ daughter was born in Maharashtra in September 2021. But the couple left him after birth. Before leaving, he was handed over to a voluntary organisation in Pune.


The Bombay High Court has directed the Union Home Ministry to issue an Indian passport to the infant daughter of an Afghan couple. A division bench of Justices G S Patel and Neela Gokhale said the child was a citizen of India legally as she was born in India. The high court told the petitioner that the child cannot be adopted until all the documents of citizenship are obtained.
