Polling begins in two northeastern states of Meghalaya, Nagaland

Guwahati:Polling began in 60 seats in Meghalaya and 59 seats in Nagaon since this morning.Polling, which began at seven a.m., is going on peacefully so far. The National People’s Party (NPP) and the BJP have been in power in Meghalaya for the last five years, but the two parties have fought back separately in this election. For the first time, the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal is participating in the Assembly elections in Meghalaya. The BJP is fighting in alliance with the National Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) in Nagaland.


The total number of booths in Nagaland is 2315. The number of voters is around 13 lakh. Of these, the number of women voters is 6 lakh 55 thousand 144. According to election experts, women’s votes can be decisive in nagaland’s assembly elections.
The number of booths in Meghalaya is 3419. Out of these, the number of sensitive booths is 640 and the number of highly sensitive booths is 323. Of the 369 candidates, 36 are women. Voting has not taken place in the constituency due to the death of a candidate from Ohyong constituency.
Polling was held in 59 seats in 60-member Meghalaya and Nagaland on Monday. The total number of candidates in these two states is 552. Polling began at 7 am and will continue till 4 pm. The counting of votes will take place on March 2.
