New Delhi:’The Elephant Whisperers’ won india’s first Oscar at the 95th Academy Awards. Produced by Guneet Monga, the film was nominated in the Best Short Documentary category. The Tamil-language documentary has won an Oscar by beating films like ‘How to Measure a Year’, ‘Stranger at the Gate’. There were three nominations from India this year. The song ‘Natu Natu’ from SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ is also nominated in the Best Song category. Bengali director Shaunak Sen’s film ‘All That Breeds’ was in the feature documentary category. However, Shaunak could not win. After the win, Guneet wrote on Instagram, “This victory is for all women. ’’
Produced by Guneet Monga and directed by Kartiki Gonsalves this year, ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ is the first Indian film to bring an Oscar to India. However, this is not the first time that several Indian documentaries have been nominated in this category. But in the end, Oscar came in the hands of two women. Elephant cub Raghu and two mahouts This is a story around life. After an accident, Raghu is brought to Boman and Bailey, who heal his wounds and raise him. The whole creature of Boman and Bailey revolves around this elephant cub. Director Karthike Gonsalves has shown the chemistry of the three trio on screen. Guneet Monga is in charge of the production. So far, a total of three films have been nominated from India in this category. Karthiki’s film was nominated after ‘The House That Anand Built’ (1969) and ‘An Encounter with Faces’ (1979). ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ finally brought home the Oscar.
