New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully test-fired an indigenously developed ultra-short-range anti-aircraft missile. Two ‘land-to-air’ missiles of this tribe fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Odisha on Tuesday destroyed specific targets in the air of the Bay of Bengal, defence ministry sources said.

According to a section of experts, india will go a long way in the field of air defense in the future as a result of this successful test. This very short-range ‘land-to-air’ missile is called ‘Very Short Range Air Defense System’ (VS-HORADS) in military terminology. Capable of detecting and destroying enemy aircraft, drones and missiles flying at extremely low altitudes with the help of an ‘electro-optical tracking system’, this missile can be carried and fired by only one soldier.
The technology for designing, manufacturing, testing, monitoring and controlling the VS-HORADS missile was invented by drdo scientists. A few others have worked as collaborators.
