Kolkata : Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has said that the party has resolved that it will defeat the BJP in all 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh along with its alliance partners in the Lok Sabha elections. On the issue of taking the Congress along, he said that the Congress is a national party and it has to decide its own role at the national level. He also put the Congress in the dock on the issue of contesting elections in Rae Bareli and Amethi.
Akhilesh was speaking to reporters after the national executive meeting in Kolkata on Sunday. On the issue of alliance before the Lok Sabha elections, he said that alliances will definitely be formed. Regional forces are negotiating about the alliance and will take a decision in time. For this, many leaders including West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin are making efforts.
Akhilesh said regional parties in various states are capable of defeating the BJP and are fighting strongly. On the question of Congress in alliance, he said that Congress is a national party.
