New Delhi: Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh should not surrender, but flee to Pakistan and take shelter there. Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) chief and MP Simranjit Singh Mann has stirred up a controversy by making such a statement at a time when the Punjab Police is waking up about Amritpal. “Amritpal should cross the Irrawaddy river and take shelter in Pakistan instead of surrendering,” he said. ”

While saying this, the Akali chief also brought up the issue of 1984. “We also went to Pakistan in 1984, didn’t we? Amritpal should have fled to Pakistan leaving that history a ‘witness’. Because his life is now in danger. And the government is also trying to ‘suppress’ us. ”

At a time when the Punjab Police is desperate to nab the Khalistani leader, the Akali chief’s remarks have created a furore. At a time when there was a lot of speculation about whether Amritpal would surrender or not, intelligence sources claimed that the Khalistani leader was preparing to surrender at the Golden Temple in Amritsar on the evening of Baisakhi. Soon after, the Akali chief’s comments stirred up a controversy.

However, there was no indication of surrender from Amritpal’s side or sources close to him. In a YouTube video, when speculations were rife that he was about to surrender, Amritpal sent out a message that there was no question of surrendering. Amritpal has been absconding since March 18. The police have been chasing him for the last 12 days. Amritpal has been seen sometimes in Haryana, sometimes in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and sometimes in Punjab. Not only that, he also managed to escape in front of the police a couple of times.
