New Delhi: Meteorological Department has issued a heat wave warning in nine states of the country. West Bengal is among these nine states. Heat wave warning has also been issued for Odisha, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Sikkim. Among these states, west Bengal, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh are likely to see a further rise in temperature, the met office said.
Heat wave conditions have been prevailing in West Bengal for the past few days. Monday was no exception. The maximum temperature in Kolkata on Monday was 40 degrees Celsius. Which is 4 degrees above normal. Temperatures in 20 cities in the state were hovering around 40 degrees Celsius. The heat wave situation in the state is likely to continue till April 21, the MeT department said.Apart from West Bengal, the mercury is also rising in the neighbouring states of Odisha and Bihar. The maximum temperature crossed 40 degrees Celsius in several districts of Odisha. The situation in Bihar is the same. Heat wave conditions continued in Punjab and Haryana on Monday. Heat wave conditions are expected to continue in the two states on Tuesday as well.
Telangana’s Jaishankar Bhopalpalli district recorded a maximum temperature of 44.6 degrees Celsius on Monday. Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh recorded a maximum temperature of 43.4 degrees Celsius. Apart from this, the maximum temperature crossed 40 degrees in several districts of these nine states. At least 13 people died in Maharashtra on Sunday after falling ill due to the scorching heat. Many people attended the ‘Maharashtra Bhushan Award’ ceremony. The audience sat under the open sky in the scorching sun. As a result, 13 people died of heat stroke. Many others fell ill. The event was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
