Guwahati:The Sunday Rapid Chess Tournament (16th Edition) organized by the Guwahati Chess Academy at the Academy’s premises on R G Baruah Road in Guwahati on April 23rd, 2023, has concluded with Himanish Kumar Sarma clinching the title. Himanish remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and scored 5.5 points from 6 rounds. In the final round, Himanish drew with Rajat Bafna. Rajat Bafna came in second place with 5 points.
Neehar Das also scored 5 points but he was declared third on the basis of tie-break score. Hridika Das and Manthan Lahkar got fourth and fifth position respectively by scoring 4.5 points each. Nibhriti Goswami was named best girl of the tournament with 4 points. In under-7 category Aadvik Banik got first position by scoring 1 point. Akanksha Kalita and Suryanshu Saikia also scored 1 point each hut declared second and third on the basis of tie-break score. In the under-9 category, Dhanyata Goswami came in first place with 4 points, Arnav Vhetia and Barnit Baishya scored 3 points each and declared second and third on the basis of tie-break score. In the under-11 category, Vivaan Ariz Thakuria came in first place with 4.5 points, and Aaradhya Bharadwaj and Hriyan Kaushik Thakuria both scored 4 points each and declared second and third on the basis of tie-break score. Nibir Nilay Baishya came in first place in the under-13 category with 4 points, Shuvang Pran Kashyap came in second place with 3.5 points. Aayan Bhartia also scored 3.5 points and declared third on the basis of tie-break score. Pratyush Pathak came in first place in the under-15 category with 4 points, Kritartha Saikia came in second place with 3.5 points and Uddipta Barman came in third place with 3 points.The tournament was held in a rapid time format in Swiss league system for 6 rounds. The top five players were awarded trophies and cash prizes. Pranab Kumar Nath, Fide Arbiter served as the Chief Arbiter for the tournament.
