New Delhi: The Supreme Court recently set aside a gujarat high court ruling that ayurvedic doctors working in government hospitals can treat like MBBS doctors in the same manner.
Justice V. In this context, a bench of Ramsubramanian and Pankaj Mithal said: “While acknowledging the importance of Ayurveda doctors and the need to promote alternative/indigenous methods of medicine, we cannot be ignorant of the fact that both categories of doctors are definitely not doing equal work as they are entitled to equal pay. The bench also said that it is a matter of common knowledge that MBBS is being conducted in the outpatient department of the hospital. Doctors are allowed to treat hundreds of patients, which is not the case with Ayurvedic doctors. The apex court verdict is based on a petition challenging the 2012 Gujarat High Court order.
