Cinema hall will now have to pay 67 thousand rupees for being bitten by a rat while watching a movie
Guwahati: A consumer court in Assam recently ordered compensation to a cinema hall owner. The court gave this direction to the owner of the cinema hall due to the rat bite during the screening.
A bench comprising Kamrup District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Chairman AFA Bora and members Archana Deka Lakher and Tutumoni Deva Goswami said that “it is the duty of the cinema hall owner to maintain cleanliness. According to the information, the complainant had said in the testimony that the cinema hall was not clean and popcorn and other food items were lying in the ground, due to which rats were roaming around.
On April 25, the court ruled that the complainant’s testimony showed that no broom was regularly applied after every show in the cinema hall and no arrangements were made to ensure the safety and hygiene of the cinema hall. The incident took place on October 20, 2018, at Galleria Cinema in Bhangagarh, Guwahati. The complaint before the consumer forum was accepted after five months. The complainant alleged that during the screening of the film, he realised that he was bleeding from his legs. After which he was kept under observation for two hours, as it was not known who had bitten him at that time. After which the woman had to face many problems.
The woman had sought a compensation of Rs 6 lakh from the owner of the cinema hall. The owner of the movie hall argued that the complaint was not worthy and the woman was also treated at that time. Protesting, the woman said that when she approached the cinema hall owner with the matter, he offered her free tickets for her next film.
