Guwahati: ‘Parag Kumar Das Journalism Award-2023’ has been presented this year’s award Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty who has been courageously exposing the faults of the government by going against the tide. Sangita Barua, the daughter of Assam, who has shown social responsibility by taking an anti-establishment stance, is working as the National Affairs Editor and Chief of Bureau of The Wire News Group.
She joined the institute as deputy editor in 2016. Sangeeta Barua, who worked as the deputy editor of The Hindu from 2002 to 2015, also served in news agencies UNI and The National Herald. Penguin, the world’s leading publishing house, has published Sangeeta’s much-read book ‘Assam: The Accord, The Disorder’, which is the author of several books. Another new book written in English with ‘Assameseness’ as the main subject, ‘The Assamese’, will be released soon. She is an alumnus of Gauhati University from where she graduated in 1995.
