Jama Masjid or Neelkanth Mahadev’s temple? ASI agrees to survey to resolve conflict

New Delhi: Was the mosque built on the foundation of the temple or was it a mosque from the beginning? The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has agreed to conduct a survey to resolve the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha’s standoff over jama masjid in Uttar Pradesh. The Hindu Mahasabha claimed that the temple of Neelkanth Mahadev, which was at badaun place, has been demolished and turned into a mosque. It is now known as Jama Masjid. The Hindu Mahasabha had requested the ASI to conduct a survey to verify the veracity of the claim. Responding to the request, the Archaeological Survey of India agreed to the study. They have also submitted applications to the Badaun court.


In September 2022, Mukesh Patel, state president of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, filed an application in the sessions court in Badaun. The main theme of which is that Jama Masjid is actually the construction of the temple. The temple of Neelkanth Mahadev was destroyed and the mosque was built on it. He has to be surveyed by the ASI. The case began with the three parties partying. ASI, state government and mosque authorities. The court had sought the OPINION of the ASI in the case.

They said the ASI was ready to conduct an archaeological survey at Jama Masjid. They have filed an application in this regard in the court seeking time. Advocate Ved Prakash Sao, appearing for the Petitioner Hindu Mahasabha, said the court has given 15 days time to the ASI. A preliminary report has to be submitted. The next hearing in the case is on May 30.
