Guwahati:Mayank Chakraborty of Assam brought laurel for Assam by winning Championship in 33rd National Under-17 Open Chess Championship – 2023 held from 1st May to 9th May, 2023 at Jalandhar, Punjab. Mayank beat Prthvi Singh of Uttar Pradesh in 11th and final round to score 10 points from 11 rounds. Mayank remains unbeaten throughout the tournament winning 9 games and drawing two games. The tournament was organized by District Chess Association Jalandhar on behalf of Punjab State Chess Association and under the aegis of All India Chess Federation.
Ajay, Santosh Parvathareddy of Uttar Pradesh got second position by scoring 9 points and Vignesh, Advaith Vemula of Telengana got third position by scoring 8.5 points. Mayank Pocketed Rs 90,000 as prize money. He is also selected to represent India in forthcoming World Youth Championship in under-18 category.
