Centre takes big step to prevent phone theft in the country, special tracking system will expose fraudsters
New Delhi: Mobile phones are stolen in this country. There is also a case of mobile phone loss. This time, the Centre has stepped in to curb it. For this, the government is bringing in a ‘lost phone tracking’ and ‘blocking system’. The special technology will be officially launched across the country on May 17. The Centre claims that this tracking system will help in finding stolen and lost phones.
The official nickname for this phone tracking and blocking method is CEIR. It was created by the Department of Telematics. The CEIR system is already being used on a trial basis in Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka and North East India to find phones. Now it is also known to be ready for Pan India. For this reason, special technology will be officially launched across the country on May 17.
Department of Telematics officials said the CEIR system will help police find lost or stolen phones. They claim that this technology is also capable of detecting cloned or fake mobiles. As a result, phone-related fraud will decrease. If the phone is fake and cloned, the CEIR method will inform the customer about that information. For this, the government has directed every mobile manufacturer to publish a 15-digit unique numeric identifier or international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) number on their handsets. You have to tell before the phone is sold. So that the phone was stolen, it was possible to track the phone in the CEIR method using the IMEI number.
