New Delhi: Delhi University’s political science curriculum has been slightly changed. Some chapters have been added. Again, according to the semester, some of the old chapters have been pushed back quite a bit. In this new curriculum, Hindutva leader Veer Savarkar came before Mahatma Gandhi.
Savarkar’s chapter has been added to the fifth semester curriculum at the undergraduate level of political science at Delhi University. But that chapter is optional. Students can also remove it from the curriculum if they do not want to.
The decision to add this optional chapter of Savarkar to the fifth semester was taken on Friday. At a meeting of the academic council of the university, the authorities agreed on Savarkar’s chapter.A chapter on Mahatma Gandhi was already included in the undergraduate political science curriculum at Delhi University. Gandhi’s role in India’s freedom struggle was taught in that chapter. But with the revamp of the curriculum and the addition of Savarkar’s chapter, Gandhi’s chapter has been pushed back a bit. It’s now in its seventh semester. In other words, students will read about Savarkar in the fifth semester before reading about Gandhi.
