Guwahati: A hope of North East India has been fulfilled today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday flagged off the first Vande Bharat Express in the Northeast from Guwahati to New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal. The Prime Minister hoisted the virtual green flag and launched the train from Guwahati station.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also joined the virtual event. Prime Minister Modi also said that this train will help in improving infrastructure with all states related to railway network in the North East. The travel time between Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri will be in 5 hours and 30 minutes. The Prime Minister today dedicated 182 km of roads to the nation among the newly electrified branches.
