New Delhi: The Law Commission of India has said that the Sedition Act should be kept in force. The commission examined the provisions of the Sedition Act under section 124A of the Indian Penal Code. According to them, this British-era law must be implemented. However, multiple sections need to be amended and it needs to be clarified in what cases the act can be implemented. The argument that it would be repealed because it was a colonial-era law is not acceptable, the report said.

The Law Commission report said that in many cases, the sedition law is misused. Therefore, the central government needs to publish special guidelines on this law. Also, no separate punishment can be arranged under this act. In line with other sections of the Indian Penal Code, the offender should be punished under the Sedition Act.
