Guwahati:The third Khelo India University Games held in Uttar Pradesh concluded successfully today. Nearly four thousand players from more than 200 universities in the country have also set several new records by participating in a total of 21 events. The key aspect of this year’s Khelo India University Games was the participation of several Olympians and world champion athletes even after the national event.
Meanwhile, in the third Khelo India University Games, the players of Assam have broken all the previous records and achieved glorious success.On the last day of Assam’s women’s fencing player , Sumi Dutta won the gold medal to celebrate the state’s success in the Khelo India University Games. It is to be noted that Assam women’s fencing players represented Gurunak Dev University in , Punjab. Today, the women’s team of fencing competition held at the Indoor Stadium of Ikana Sports Cheatery in Lucknow .Sumi, a talented female fencing player is from Tinsukia . She first expressed her desire to play for Dibrugarh University but did not get a response. So at the request of Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar, Punjab, he took part in the third Khelo India University Games after getting all the facilities. Her coach is Anirban Banerjee. Sumi is getting training at the Anirban Fencing Sports Academy in Tinsukia. Meanwhile, panjab university team topped the medal tally at the third Khelo India University Games. The university managed to win a total of 69 medals including 26 gold, 17 silver and 26 bronze. Guru nanak Dev University in Amritsar, Punjab, which came second, managed to bag 24 gold, 27 silver and 17 bronze. Meanwhile, Jain University in Karnataka came third with 16 gold, 10 silver and six bronze.
