New Delhi: The Kollam-Chennai Express narrowly escaped a major accident. A crack was detected under one of the compartments of the train (sassy). The matter came to the notice of a railway worker. The room was immediately replaced. The incident took place at Sengottai station in Tamil Nadu on Sunday afternoon. Railway workers fear that if the crack was not noticed, there could have been a major accident.
The Chennai-bound Karmandal Express and the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express met with accidents at Bahanga Bazar in Odisha’s Balasore on Friday evening. 288 people were killed in the accident. “The train arrived at Sengottai station in Tamil Nadu at 3.36 pm on Sunday,” a Southern Railway employee told NDTV. At that time, a railway worker noticed a crack in the bottom of the train compartment. After seeing the cracks, the compartment of the train was changed. The train left at 4.40 pm with a new compartment. The accident was averted because of the railway employee, the Southern Railway said. The railway employee will be rewarded, it said.
