Guwahati: The sale and export of dog meat has been banned in Nagaland for the last three years. On Wednesday, the Kohima bench of the Gauhati High Court set aside the ban. On Friday, Justice Marley Vankung had said that the state government cannot stop the sale of dog meat in this way as there is no law in this regard. Soon after, the government’s order was set aside.
The high court ruled that the government had imposed a ban on the sale and export of dog meat without passing any law in this regard. The high court also said that the Nagaland government had ordered the ban using the Food Security Act, but there was no such power in the act.
