Guwahati: The two day conclave on the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 held at Assam Administrative Staff College concluded today where Governor Gulab Chand Kataria made a fervent appeal to all stake holders to take special steps to make Assam a model on the implementation of NEP 2020.
Speaking at the valedictory function of the conclave, the Governor said that Government of Assam has already launched this policy for higher education on June 3. Now, steps are being taken to rollout this policy comprehensively to address the needs of the students at all levels. Governor Kataria said that during the last two days, the experts present in the conclave identified the obstacles and problems in the implementation of the new education policy. Moreover they also put forward their preparedness and possible hindrances in this regard. Accordingly, steps will be taken to implement the provisions of the NEP across all sectors of education to make the state an example for others to follow.
The Governor also said that as a strategy of implementation of NEP 2020, vocational and skill education would also get the desired and deserved place in the state. Referring to earlier education policy in the country namely the Kothari Commission of 1966 and the education policy of 1986, the Governor said that both the policies failed to pay much emphasis on vocational and skill based education. He said, “It is therefore, necessary to remove the mental blockage towards vocational component of education. As such, adequate emphasis will be put in Assam to implement skill based component of NEP 2020, to transform our man power into productive and entrepreneurial resources”.
