Supreme Court dismisses plea seeking early hearing on army rule in Manipur

New Delhi: Cookies’ lives are in danger. Army rule should be imposed in Manipur immediately. A large section of the Kuki community had sought an early hearing on the demand before the vacation bench of the Supreme Court. The apex court, however, dismissed the plea for a speedy hearing.Manipur has been in turmoil for more than a month due to kuki-metai clashes.

The agitation for recognition of scheduled castes for the ‘Meitei’ majority tribe has created a rift between the Naga-Ku Ki jati group in the small state. About 120 people have been killed in the clashes so far. The number of injured is more than 1,000. Thousands of people are homeless. A few days ago, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Manipur to restore peace.
