New Delhi: At least 12 people were killed in a head-on collision between two buses in Odisha. The accident took place when a bus was returning from the wedding. Seven members of the same family died on the bus.

The incident took place in Odisha’s Brahmapur area. The bus was going to Digaphondi via Brahmapur Tappani Road on Sunday night. All the passengers were returning from the wedding. The bus suddenly collided with a passenger bus coming from the opposite direction. Both buses crashed. Brahmapur police reached the spot after receiving information. The injured passengers were rescued from the two buses and rushed to a local hospital, the SP said. Some locals also joined the rescue efforts. A total of 12 people have been confirmed dead in the accident.
Seven members of the same family were among the 12, police said. The injured are undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College Hospital in Digaphandi. Two of them were shifted to SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack as their condition was critical.
The Odisha Special Relief Commission has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 30,000 each for the treatment of those injured in the accident. Police are investigating how the accident happened.
